I just love this photograph so much. I took it at Revere Beach in early September 2009 I went on a vacation by myself to Boston. It was the only trip I took all through college and I chose Boston because it was the first location I lived in by myself. (In 2006, summer college classes at Harvard)
I also broke my point-and-shoot Samsung camera that 2009 summer by carelessly throwing it onto my sandy towel at Coney Island. It was actually a pretty good camera - my mom recognized my interest and let me order a $400 8 megapixel camera for Christmas 2005. At the time I think it was the highest megapixel range available under $500. It was cumbersome to take with me (about two inches wide, hardly fit in a pocket) but I still managed to learn basics of photography because it had some of the same basic settings as a SLR camera - program, manual, shutter, aperture.
I had wanted to buy a DSLR camera since I moved to New York City, so I saw this as an opportunity to do so. Remember, this was the days before instagram and iPhone cameras. I used my camera on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis. I bought my Nikon D60 right before my Boston trip and I enjoyed my vacation so much more with it.
